Command-Line (SMARTMon-UX)

Print this Topic Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The SMARTMon-UX command-line program may be run directly from the root directory of the mounted USB.  The SANtool includes a wrapper script that detects whether the host computer is booted to a Windows operating system, or a UNIX/LINUX variant, and passes your parameters onto the correct executable.  The version of SMARTMon-UX that is bundled with the SANtool is a variant of the SMARTMon-UX program which is sold as a stand-alone executable. Documentation for the stand-alone SMARTMon-UX executable is at http://www.santools.com/smart/unix/manual. The SMARTMon-UX version on the SANtool is enhanced to support web-specific logic, such as decoding HTML information. It also has been modified so you can not install the executable as a Windows service, run it without a SANtool USB, or use it to log information on the host computer.

The current version of the SANtool does not have a mechanism to report status information for SMARTMon-UX processes.  When you invoke a widget that can take hours or days to run, such as a multi-pass secure erase, then the SANtool will only report results once the process completes.  As such, we advise you run such functions via the command-line, rather than through the browser interface.

As SMARTMon-UX functions are encapsulated into widgets, screen shots and additional information will be added.
